Hamptons Half Marathon RECAP
Well, I was nervous the day before, but the morning of, everything went super smoothly. Had no problem waking up @ 5:30, getting ready, and getting to the race. Nutrition went incredibly well (really the biggest takeaway from the race), and from waist up I felt incredible. At mile three I was getting excited about my pace and the weather was absolutely PERFECT. Then, at mile 4, my right IT struck. Which is weird, because I haven’t had IT pain in over a year, maybe more. So, from mile 4 to mile 13.1, I stuck it out. By the end, it was hurting pretty badly (I should know better than to keep running), and my left quad was strained. HOWEVER, I still managed to PR by about 45 minutes :) The first time I ran a half marathon it was my longest run ever, and I figured out after the race that Gatorade and I didn’t get along. So, you know, it’s always a learning experience. So this time I finished in about 2:40. I know I can definitely knock at least 20+ minutes off of that next time. Other take aways from the race: less is sometimes more when it comes to nutrition, the trigger point roller for achilles/calf is magic, it’s awesome to train for and run a race with a group of friends, and I must focus on leg strength more. After the race I feel reenergized for the NYC marathon training, but also a little worried about the IT. If I buckle down on training for the next 5 weeks, I’ll be very pleased with myself and my race time.
Congratulations, Michelle!
